Residence Renovation 50 m2 - Egaleo, Egaleo, Attiki, Greece

The industrial style’s simplicity can be incredibly striking and can blend with other techniques to form hybrid compositions. In 2016, Sophia Emfietzoglou Architect took on the challenge of renovating a 50 m2 residence located on the 3rd floor of a building in Egaleo. Our task was to capture the space, create an architectural design, supervise construction, and decorate the interior.

Upon assessing the space, it became apparent that a complete redesign was necessary. The objective of the renovation was to transform the small apartment into a fully functional residence that would efficiently utilize the limited surface area. The redefinition of the rooms in terms of their function was essential in achieving this goal. The kitchen, living room, bedroom, and bathroom of the apartment were all carefully rearranged in the ideal space to maximize functionality.

The client expressed a preference for a darker aesthetic for the residence, with functional and high-quality lighting features. To infuse the darker aesthetic elements into the interior design, we were flexible and played around with various decorating styles  to redefine the aesthetic compositions. To achieve this goal, our architectural firm chose to use an industrial style as the foundation for the decoration. This allowed us to renovate the apartment creatively and make minimal interventions that wouldn’t overcrowd the limited space, while still maintaining a cohesive aesthetic identity.

The walls of the residence were given a horizontal dichromatic treatment with a dark base color, which was carefully selected to complement the furniture and create a visually balanced color scheme. Decorative and functional objects like frames and shading equipment were also incorporated into the upper half of the walls. 

The industrial style of the renovation was skillfully mixed with classic and retro elements, such as tile choices for the kitchen floor and bathroom walls, resulting in a lively and unique space. Through carefully chosen aesthetic details, the dark character of the environment was transformed into a warm and inviting ambiance.
