Holiday Residence Renovation in Vrachati, Korinthos, Greece
2012-2013
Architectural Representation, Design, Construction & Supervision
The architectural firm Sophia Emfietzoglou Architect renovated a holiday residence in Vrachati between the years 2012-2013 with the aim of creating a seamless aesthetic and functional identity throughout all the areas of the house, while maintaining its unique characteristics. To achieve this, ww evaluated both our client’s needs and the parameters of the existing spaces, integrating this information into the renovation design and interior aesthetic.
During the renovation of the holiday residence, it became apparent that the interior spaces needed to have their characteristics unified, since they were built at different times. To achieve a cohesive aesthetic identity for the house, a combination of country and industrial styles was chosen, with wood as the primary material.
Given that Vrachati is a frequently visited coastal destination with predominantly unregulated construction, we aimed to set ourselves apart from the standard and create a holiday residence that would have a distinct identity and coherence in its features, both in terms of the surrounding environment and the architecture. After designing and renovating the outdoor spaces of the residence, we made sure that the exterior architecture would help the smooth transition from the conventional to the industrial style of the interior, both in terms of the materials utilized and the design techniques employed. For instance, we incorporated classic industrial iron frames for the window protection, which also complements all the other traditional metallic details.
